The following quotation is not a joke, but I have decided to post it here because I donīt think that it can be teaken seriously... It is a quotation from a paper called Theories of Sexual Coercion, which can be found on the following website:
http://www.welcometobarbados.org/theories.html . In this article the author summarizes different approaches to sexual coercion and the quotation refers to some feminist perspectives.
"Rape is a socially constructed concept, and therefore is shaped by society and does not have a true definition. ... Rape also might occur each time a man and woman have sex when it was not freely initiated by the woman. Even if a woman initiates sex, the act is still rape if she were acting under social pressures. Perhaps the most radical definition of rape is the assertion that no woman can freely consent to sex in a patriarchal society. Even if she wants or desires sex, this desire was manufactured by a hierarchical culture that aims to oppress women. According to this definition, any act of sex between a male and female in a patriarchal society is rape (Muelenhard, Danoff-Burg, and Powch, 1996)."
Well, I think that feminists still consider our society as patriarchal, so my question is: Am I a bloody rapist each time I have sex with my girlfriend who enjoys sex and initiates it?
